Lesson 6: Using Fractions and Decimals

Goal
Represent and write amounts as equivalent decimals and equivalent.

 

Instructions for Use

Death to Decimals

To use Death to Decimals, read the on-screen instructions. To start the game, click on the “Play Now” button at the top of the screen. A fraction will appear at the bottom of the screen. Move Fraction Man left and right using the arrow keys to align him with the equivalent decimal. Then click the space bar to fire at the decimal to remove it. You must eliminate all 10 decimals before they hit the ground.

 

Comparing Fractions and Decimals

To use Comparing Fractions and Decimals, read the introduction and press “Play the Game!” Read the instructions and click “Begin” to start playing. You will be asked to either convert a decimal to a fraction or a fraction to a decimal. Enter you answer in the white box and press “Check Answer”. If you are correct you will have a chance to shoot the target. You can move the tank by pressing the up and down arrow keys. You can change the direction that you’re shooting by pressing the left and right arrow keys. Shoot the target by hitting the space bar. You must hit the target to move onto the next question.

 

Decifractator

To use Decifractator, you can click on the arrows on the numerator or denominator of the given fraction to see how the equivalent decimal changes. You can also create your own fraction by inserting your own numerator and denominator into the white boxes and clicking “Calculate”. Observe what happens when your numerator is larger than your denominator.

 

Equivalent Fractions and Decimals

To use Equivalent Fractions and Decimals, look at the fraction on the left side of the scale and determine which of the three decimals below represents its equivalent. Click on the decimal to see if you are correct.
