The Ultimate Party
INTRODUCTION
Adding and subtracting decimal numbers is part of everyday life. Use your skills for adding and subtracting decimal numbers to help you plan a party!
THE TASK
Plan a party for 27 people. Be sure that you have enough food, drink and party favours for everyone at the party and, most importantly, keep track of your spending!
THE PROCESS
- Once you have chosen your theme, decide the details of the party:
• Where will the party be?
• What kind of food will we have? (Enough for 27 people)
• What will we have to drink? (Enough for 27 people)
• What kind of decorations will be used? (At lease three items)
• What party favour(s) will each guest receive before going home. (At least one party favour for each of the 27 guests)
• What kind of plates, cups, and napkins will be used? (Enough plates, cups, and napkins for 27 people)**Remember you may not be able to find packages of 27. You may have to buy extra in order to have enough.

After you have gathered all your information, create your shopping list. List prices of each item, how many of each item you need to purchase, and the total amount of money you will be spending. This will involve many calculations and may take a while.
- Create a presentation or poster that shows how much money was spent total and how much money was spent on each of the following categories: food & drink, decorations, plates/cups/napkins, and party favours. Your presentation should include anything that you think may convince your teacher and your classmates that your party is the best. Be creative!
