CHAPTER 6: MULTIPLICATION

Lesson 4: Multiplying by Tens, Hundreds, and Thousands

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about multiplication. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

Calculate products with multiples of tens, hundreds or thousands using mental math.

Instructions for Use

Matching allows students to practise multiplying by tens.

To use Matching, match a number sentence to the product. The game is complete when all cards have been matched.

 

Flashcards allows students to practise multiplying by tens.

To use Flashcards, call out the product before you flip over the card. Click on the card to check your answer. When you are ready to move on, click the “Remove Card” button.

 

Multiplying with 10 allows students to practise calculating products with multiples of tens, hundreds, and thousands using mental math.

To use Multiplying with 10, select level 1. Read the instructions and click “Begin” when you are ready to start the game. When a question appears in the top of the screen, enter your answer into the white box. Note that answers in the thousands require the use of commas. If you are correct you can move your spaceship around and shoot the targets. An incorrect answer will bring another question. Levels 2 and 3 are timed and can be used for an extra challenge.

 

Multiplication Millionaire allows students to practise multiplying by tens and hundreds.

To use, Multiplication Millionaire, select an answer to the equation from one of the four options by clicking on your selection. You must correctly answer all 15 questions to win the game. If you are unsure of an answer, you may click on “Hint” to eliminate one of the possibilities. A wrong answer will end the game.
