Lesson 2 - Communicate About Probability

 

To encourage your child to have fun on the Web while learning about Communicate About Probability, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs.

Instructions for Use

Predictions introduces your child to math language to describe predictions.

Have your child read and follow the step-by-step questions. Click on the "Let's Practice!" link at the bottom of the Web page to practice making predictions.

Random Samples allows your child to understand the steps for making predictions based on probability.

Stick and Switch lets your child participate in probability strategies.

Behind one of the doors is a prize and behind the other two doors are unwanted items. To use Stick and Switch, click on a door to select it. The door reveals what is behind one of the two doors that you didn't choose. You are given the option to stick with the original door or switch to the other door. The results are shown on the scoreboard.

Click on the 'Strategy' button and answer the questions to help understand the probability of winning with each strategy. Click on the 'Multiple Games' button and select a strategy, enter the number of games to play and click the 'Go' button. This will give you the probability of winning using different strategies. Discuss your strategies with a partner using math language.
